International Women’s Day, celebrated on 8 March, is the global day recognising the economic, political and social achievements of women. For women in the Navy who make up approximately 21% of the full-time RAN workforce, it is not just another day at sea or ashore but also a day to take pride in their duties and reflect on their role in Navy.

Only six months after joining the Navy, Seaman Emily Wood has found herself on the ship bearing the name of her home town. After joining the Navy Gap Year program from the national capital in January she was recently given the opportunity to complete three weeks at sea onboard HMAS Canberra.
