Navy Headquarters - South Queensland continue to show the people of Brisbane the best of Navy; their latest efforts assisting a local group that supports adults with disabilities.

‘The Tertiary Place’ located in Murarrie, Queensland relies heavily on fundraising and the generosity of the local community. The group aims to provide a stimulating, flexible and supportive group environment for people with special needs. With a number of on-going learning and creative pursuits, members can also find support to participate in their community to continue to achieve, discover and grow.

On a recent visit, Commanding Officer Navy Headquarters - South Queensland Commander Peter Tedman and Executive Officer Lieutenant Commander Mark Tandy were given a tour of the facility. Rehearsing for an upcoming play, the students were happy to put on a show for their new-found friends from the Navy.

At the end of the performance, Commander Tedman surprised Director, Ms Nona Westenrieder, with a donation from the Navy Headquarters - South Queensland team. The Navy team had raised the money through uniform free days.

"It's such a great pleasure to meet all the students and to support such a deserving group," Commander Tedman said.

Ms Nona Westenrieder said that the facility had just outlaid a large portion of their funds to upgrade a much-needed fridge and freezer and the support of Navy was greatly appreciated.

Ships and establishments routinely fundraise for, volunteer at, and support community groups as part of the Navy Community Engagement Program. The program gives the opportunity for Navy personnel to give back to the communities in which they serve.
