This year marks the 20th anniversary of the adoption of United Nations Security Council Resolution 1325, a landmark moment in the recognition of the gender impact of conflict and the need to address the rights of women and girls and conflict prevention, resolution and peacebuilding.

In October 2000 the United Nations Security Council adopted Resolution 1325, which recognised that conflict had specific gendered impacts which affected men and women in different ways, and that conflict disproportionally affected women and children.
