Every year the Royal Australian Navy Relief Trust Fund spreads Christmas cheer, and this year hundreds of Navy members will enjoy a happier Stand Down period after being granted loans to help them with some of the extra costs of the holiday season.

The islands of Tonga set the scene for some friendly competition during Joint Task Group 637.3’s recent visit to the Pacific nation’s capital Nuku’alofa. HMAF members joined personnel from HMA Ships Adelaide, Melville and Larrakia for touch football.

The ability of naval diplomacy to strengthen bilateral defence ties was on show when Indonesian Navy tall ship KRI Bima Suci sailed into Darwin Harbour recently, during a four-month annual training voyage across the Indo-Pacific with more than 100 officer cadets.

As well as benefitting the Royal Australian Navy’s submarine community when it comes to search and rescue techniques, lessons learned in Exercise PACIFIC REACH 2019 will also be woven into the standard operating procedures of the many countries involved in this year’s exercise.
