Defence personnel and their family members and guests attend the inaugural Fleet Base West Photographic Competition awards ceremony at the Gary Holland Community Centre in Rockingham, WA.

The inaugural Fleet Base West Photography Competition saw more than 100 entries from budding photographers that captured the ‘People, Places and Stuff’ associated with the Royal Australian Navy elements based on Garden Island, Western Australia.

In a combined effort from Navy, Parks and Wildlife Service and the Western Australian State Government, on-water safety has been greatly improved around Garden Island in Rockingham, Western Australia.

A beach on the west side of Garden Island - an area south of Perth that houses HMAS Stirling and Fleet Base West - has had 200kg of flotsam (floating debris) removed as part of an environmental program organised by the Collins Submarines Program Office (COLSPO).

The beaches of Garden Island, the location of HMAS Stirling and Fleet Base West, are considerably cleaner after a recent major clean-up by Navy, the Department of Defence, the WA State Government, and contractor Broadspectrum.
