Able Seaman Maritime Logistics - Personnel Shona Compton is currently serving in HMAS Arunta as one of the administration staff as well as being a member of the Ship's Medical Emergency Team.

Able Seaman Maritime Logistics Shona Compton loves people deploying overseas and experiencing new cultures.

She is currently embarked in HMAS Arunta, which boasts the ship's original motto of 'Conquer or Die'.

She joined the Royal Australian Navy from Woodspoint, Victoria, in 2005, as a Maritime Logistics - Support Operation sailor, and transferred to Personnel Operations in 2014.

"I decided to do something different from everyone else in my home town,"she said.

"I now have the unique opportunity to travel the world and get paid for it!

"I have made new friends and enjoyed many experiences which I wouldn’t have had as a civilian."

The 29 year old has served ten years with the Royal Australian Navy. Working in Maritime Logistics, Able Seaman Compton is tasked with all administration functions onboard the ship including paying allowances, promotions and providing career advice.

Able Seaman Compton puts her signature behaviours in place by communicating well and regularly to the 190 personnel onboard.

"I love my job because I get to see the satisfaction of Navy members' faces when I provide them with good news and information," she said.

"I would never get to see this if it wasn’t for this deployment."

Able Seaman Compton has been all over Australia, New Zealand, Timor Leste (Operation ASTUTE) and Fiji (Operation QUICKSTEP).

Able Seaman Compton's ambition is to be promoted to a Leading Seaman and has 'eyes on' joining HMAS Sirius to challenge herself with more responsibility while deployed overseas.

Arunta
is a long-range escort. The ship is currently on a North East Asian deployment, and has just conducted exercises with the Indian, Chinese and French navies.
