In a first for Wollongong Defence Force Recruiting, new Midshipman Jessica McGannon was officially sworn into the Royal Australian Navy by her father, Commander John McGannon, in an enlistment ceremony held at the Australian Hydrographic Office earlier this week.

Chief Petty Officer Richard 'Blue' Timms is presented his Federation Star by Chief of Navy, Vice Admiral Ray Griggs, AO, CSC, RAN recognising over 40 years of service in the Royal Australian Navy.

Chief Petty Officer Richard Timms was recently presented with a Federation Star in recognition of over 40 years of service in the Royal Australian Navy. The star was presented by Chief of Navy, Vice Admiral Ray Griggs as family and colleagues from HMAS Creswell looked on.

The 50th New Entry Officers’ Course commenced on 3 February with a significant change in tradition - new names for the Divisions to which the officer trainees belong for the duration of their training.

Three federal politicians were given a hands-on experience of life in the Royal Australian Navy recently, when they visited HMAS Creswell as part of the Australian Defence Force Parliamentary Program 2013.

The chefs stopped cooking, the cleaners upped and left, the fire-station seemed eerily quiet and phones were left unanswered across HMAS Creswell recently - but the Serco Sodexho Defence Services (SSDS) Site Manager, Tim Went, shouldn’t have worried because his staff were only stopping to acknowledge the efforts of their boss.

HMAS Creswell hosts over 200 visiting groups a year, but a recent arrival generated more than passing interest from ship’s company.
