Sunrise on Australia Day 2014 as seen from the bridge of Armidale Class Patrol Boat, HMAS Broome, north of the Tiwi Islands.

Far away from backyard barbies, beach cricket and fireworks, up to 800 Defence Force personnel, on land, at sea, and in the air, kept a diligent watch over northern waters during the Australia Day long weekend, 2014.

West-based tanker HMAS Sirius has conducted the first Replenishment at Sea for the Royal Australian Navy in 2014.

HMAS Sirius conducting a RAS-(L) underway for HMAS Stuart, allowing Stuart to stay on station longer as a result of the much needed liquid refreshment.

The Navy’s west based operational tanker, HMAS Sirius, provided essential support to Operation RESOLUTE over the Christmas and New Year period, conducting routine re-supply runs from Fleet Base West.

Cairns resident Steve Noakes is the closest thing to Santa this Christmas for his Patrol Boat crew of 21 who are away from home conducting security operations in Australia's northern waters.

Sub Lieutenant Louella Yu onboard HMAS Parramatta gets into the Christmas spirit, prior to conducting border protection patrols in northern Australian waters this holiday period.

When 26 year old Louella Yu finished her Mechatronics Engineering degree at UTS Sydney, she was pretty sure she didn’t want a regular office job. This Christmas, she will be a long way from a regular office - taking part in border protection operations onboard HMAS Parramatta, assigned to Operation RESOLUTE.
