Officers and sailors from HMA Ships Diamantina and Leeuwin were joined by their counterparts from Indonesia and the United States to mark the 77th anniversary of the loss of HMAS Perth (I) and the USS Houston during the Battle of Sunda Strait.

Maritime archaeologists from the Australian National Maritime Museum and the National Research Centre of Archaeology Indonesia/Pusat Penelitian Arkeologi Nasional (ARKENAS) have conducted a joint dive on the wreck of the Australian Second World War vessel HMAS Perth (I), supported by officials from the Indonesian Navy, Indonesian Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries, Indonesian Ministry of Education and Culture (Jakarta), and the Directorate of Heritage and Museum-Regional Office Serang.

Lieutenant Gavin Campbell, RAN (Ret’d), died in Sydney last week after a long illness, at the age of 94. He was the remaining surviving commissioned officer of the Royal Australian Navy wartime cruiser HMAS Perth (I).
