More than 300 Navy Cadets from around the country converged on Sydney for the once-in-a-life-time experience of the International Fleet Review.

A former Wagga Wagga signwriter who gave up his job to join the Navy was one of 8000 sailors who took part in the IFR.

It’s pretty obvious LEUT Luis Cotarelo Martinex, of ESPS Cantabria, loves his job. A personable friendly character, he’s quick to say he’s not in the Navy but belongs to the Spanish Defence Department and his English is not good. He stresses he knows little about the inner machinations of the ship, yet his guided tour of her suggests otherwise, as does his command of the English language.

Moran Division will be written into the history books on 28 November 2013 when the final class of Moran recruits graduate from the Royal Australian Navy Recruit School at HMAS Cerberus.

Navy aviators may be accustomed to soaring at great heights and their engineering team helps them to achieve that. But as this is usually done from the relative comfort of a helicopter cockpit or a hangar, the 10 Fleet Air Arm personnel from or attached to HMAS Albatross who are poised to step off the top of the 26 storey AMP Building later this month will also be stepping far outside their comfort zones.

HMAS Cerberus opened its gates for the 2013 iteration of the base's biennial Open Day on the weekend, and the ship’s company was amazed by the number of people passing through.
