Defence Security Authority's Chief Security Officer, Mr Frank Colley, presents Rachel Hinterholzl with her finalist certificate during the 2013 Defence Excellence in Security Awards.

Nominations are now open for the third Annual Defence Excellence in Security Awards.

Supported by the Secretary and Chief of the Defence Force, the awards recognise and reward outstanding contributions to workplace security by Defence and Defence Industry Security Program (DISP) employees.

This year’s award categories have been reduced from five to three. The revised award categories are:

  • Category 1: Outstanding contribution to security by an individual

  • Category 2: Outstanding contribution to security by a team

  • Category 3: Outstanding contribution to security by defence industry (individual or team).

A finalist in last year’s awards, Ms Rachel Hinterholzl from the Royal Australian Navy Recruit School, attended the Awards Ceremony in Canberra where she was presented with a certificate by Mr Frank Colley, Chief Security Officer.

“I'd briefly read about the awards and the possibility of being nominated didn't even enter my mind. Being named a finalist for my role at the RAN Recruit School, working with the many external agencies, recruits and staff on the clearance process came as a complete surprise,” Rachel said.

“I encourage more supervisors and managers to nominate their worthy staff in this year’s awards as there are many deserving members out there in the fleet.”

Nominations are open until 19 May 2014.
