In February, ten members of HMAS Arunta’s ship’s company donated their time and skills to help out the children of the Malibu School in Safety Bay, Western Australia, as a part of Navy’s ongoing support to the community. The main focus of the day was to lay the foundations for their new cubby house and playground.
Led by the experienced Petty Officer Adam Hazael, the group went about dismantling some ageing equipment to clear the area and enable the new foundations for the new set of swings and a cubby house. The team then spent the remainder of the morning clearing the area for future use and planned projects.
The Arunta members completed their work at the Malibu School by paving the newly renovated foundation for the cubby house to be erected on. After a long day of working hard in the sun, everyone felt a sense of achievement for the work they had accomplished for the school.
AB Brockbank, one of the members lending a hand said that it was a “great chance to help out the kids.” While AB Dwyer declared that “the day was a great opportunity to work with people from different departments as well as helping out the Malibu School.”
Overall the day was a great success for both the Malibu School and Arunta’s crew.
