HMAS Leeuwin's ship's company had been conducting hydrographic survey operations off the south-east coast of Papua New Guinea for a number of weeks, when a resupply visit to Alotau gave the crew a chance to reflect on Australian service past.

Hidden along the Western Australian coastline lies a little-known oasis called Croc Creek—a little inlet located in Yampi Sound, north of Broome. Not to be deterred by its name, however, the crew of HMAS Choules decided it looked like a great place for a swim.
