On Friday 5 July, Lieutenant Commander Allan Von Senden, First Lieutenant HMAS Stirling enjoyed the thrilling experience of ‘hot laps’ in the Team Navy Renshaw Racing Holden VE SSV Ute at the Perth Motorplex, Kwinana Beach, Western Australia.
Undertaking the hot laps two weeks prior to retiring from his 38 year naval career, LCDR Von Senden said the hot laps were an exhilarating and unforgettable opportunity.
“I was absolutely thrilled with the experience,” he said.
“The Team Navy V8 Commodore Ute was fantastic and of course, very fast.
“As a Physical Trainer, I have been qualified in and instructed a lot of Adventure Training, so to be the pupil in an adrenalin rush activity and taken out of my comfort zone was sensational.”
Team Navy Renshaw Racing driver, Leading Seaman Glen Renshaw was credited with putting LCDR Von Senden at ease prior to the hot lap.
“Leading Seaman Renshaw’s extensive knowledge of cars and racing, coupled with a very natural way of putting people at ease allowed me to feel very comfortable under his control. His driving was remarkable,” said LCDR Von Senden.
The hot lap was a unique opportunity conducted as part of the Quit Targa West Track/Sponsors’ Ride Day, run as a private, non-competitive, untimed rally car practice/testing activity. The event was conducted as one division of approximately 3km.
