The Australian Defence Force Squash Representative Team participated in the Squash Australia National Club Championships, hosted by the National Squash Centre, from 6-8 December 2019.
Hosted in conjunction with the Australian Squash Tour finals, both events brought together Australia’s top professional players from all states and territories.
ADF Squash nominated two teams for the first time, competing against clubs for the title of Australia’s Top Club.
ADF Squash 1 entered a team in Division Two and despite a number of current touring professionals and some of Australia’s top junior talent entering in the same division, the ADF finished Runner-Up against a strong team from Daisy Hill Squash Club.
Lieutenant Ben Couch, the Vice President of ADF Squash, said it was no surprise that ADF 1 performed so well against the best Australia has to offer.
“ADF Squash has been going from strength to strength over the last few years.
“We have players who have reached the pinnacle of Australian Squash with National and State Titles under their belts, whilst this year’s performance highlights to the Australian Squash Community that we are a force to be reckoned with.
“Next year we plan on pressing for the Division One Championship and the title of Australia’s Top Squash Club,” Lieutenant Couch said.
ADF Squash has players of all abilities across all three services, in all states and territories.
To further encourage developing and grass roots players, ADF Squash has also entered a second team into Division Three of the Club Championships.
Despite stiff competition, ADF Squash 2 played with flair and determination resulting in an admirable fifth placing.
“It was an awesome experience to go toe-to-toe with some of Australia’s best players,” said Corporal Malcolm Mittra.
“Not to mention having the opportunity to watch the Australian Squash Tour finals over the weekend,” he added.
