Loved ones watched on as Captain Nick Woodley officiated the event to welcome and appoint the 37 young men and women into their naval journey.
The Director Recruiting Services at DFR Manpower Group provides six ‘Officer’s Awards’ of $5000 for Navy and Army officer candidates nationally.
Two successful Navy candidates, Marc Ledwidge and Dwayne McColl, gratefully accepted the awards on the day for their exceptional efforts throughout the recruiting process, including during their officer selection boards.
Anne and Peter Ledwidge, Marc’s parents attended the enlistment ceremony.
Mr Ledwidge said he was proud of his son.
“Very proud. I’m looking forward to seeing where he goes,” he said of Marc, who has joined as a Pilot.
The Royal Australian Navy Band Queensland, based at HMAS Moreton, provided formality and ceremony to the event and was well received by all that attended.
HMAS Moreton’s Executive Officer, Lieutenant Commander Anne Mena, said the ship’s company was proud to support enlistment ceremonies.
“It’s a very exciting time to be a member of the Royal Australian Navy, with our men and women regularly deploying in task groups, in the most capable fleet our Navy has ever known.
“We’re pleased to be able to play our part in welcoming new officers and sailors and their families into the Navy family,” Lieutenant Commander Mena said.
