A Next Generation Navy initiative to appropriately recognise the service and sacrifice of all Navy personnel and their families has seen the recent approval of formal retirement and discharge ceremonies.

On Good Friday this year, Chief Petty Officer Boatswain Rod Waites will be leaving the Permanent Navy after 42 years of service. However his only plans for retirement so far are to “do a bit of Reserve time.”

Chief Petty Officer Communications Information Systems Alan ‘Nobby’ Clark has closed the door on his illustrious 38-year Permanent Navy career. A familiar face to anyone who has spent time at HMAS Stirling and in ships based at Fleet Base West, Chief Clark will still occasionally be around the base in a Reserve capacity.
January was a month of milestones for the Fleet Air Arm’s Quality Assurance Inspector and Auditor, with Warrant Officer Aviation Technician Aircraft Colin Tietzel marking not only his 53rd year of service in the Royal Australian Navy, but also his birthday and retirement.
