Indonesian cadets get ‘Aussie’ experience

A group of Indonesian cadets has had a true Australian experience during a two-week visit to Australia recently, visiting training establishments including HMAS Albatross and HMAS Creswell, in the New South Wales Shoalhaven region.

A major step towards delivering a comprehensive helicopter training system for the Australian Defence Force occurred on 12 September with the commencement of a $157 million construction project at HMAS Albatross and Jervis Bay Airfield.

More than 200 people took advantage of the rare opportunity to tread the tarmac when the T-shaped HMAS Albatross airfield was closed for the fifth annual ‘Tour the T’ charity fun run in early December.

It was a day dedicated to celebrating Navy’s traditions and heritage at HMAS Albatross, when more than 700 personnel formed up for Ceremonial Divisions and inspection by Head of Navy Engineering, Rear Admiral Michael Uzzell, and Albatross Commanding Officer, Captain Simon Bateman.

Lieutenant Kevin King joined the Royal Australian Navy Reserve as a Maritime Trade Operations Officer in May 2011.  The Maritime Trade Operations provide the Australian Defence Force link to the commercial maritime industry that enables the protection of seaborne trade.

Visits to 816 and 723 Squadrons, a flight in a Squirrel helicopter, simulator experience in flying a Seahawk and an anti-submarine warfare demonstration were all part of the busy itinerary that Commander Fleet Air Arm, Commodore Vince Di Pietro, recently put together for Air Vice Marshal Mel Hupfeld.
