Preparations are well underway for the 2014 Australian Defence Football Federation (ADFF) National Futsal Carnival to be held at University of Sydney on Saturday 1 March.
Navy hopes to successfully bring home the trophy in both the Men’s and Women’s competition and with it continue to hold the enviable title of the most successful service since the Carnival’s inception.
The Navy Men have taken out the number one spot against Army, Air Force and often an APS team, at four of the five carnival, only missing out in 2013 to a determined Army outfit.
Able Seaman Nicholas Desilas, the Coordinator of Navy Futsal is quietly confident Navy can regain the title this year with a very strong showing at the trials.
“We had great talent at trials this year, so it will be a very competitive Navy team on the court.”
After an inaugural team-building year in 2011 and missing by the slimmest of ‘goal difference’ margins to Army, the Navy Women fought back and were the best on the court in 2012 and 2013.
Navy Women’s side captain, Petty Officer Danielle Williams, is excited about another successful campaign.
“We are all looking forward to wearing the Navy kit with pride at the titles and will be very focussed on retaining the trophy as champs three years in a row.”
