Petty Officer (PO) Adam Hoskinson is an Information Technology (IT) manager with a difference. You won't find him working in a standard office with a city outlook; instead Adam enjoys an ever-changing ocean view.

Hailing from Tasmania, Adam enjoys his role as Communications and Information Systems Manager in the Royal Australian Navy’s Amphibious Landing Ship - Heavy, HMAS Tobruk.

It’s a world of opportunity for the Launceston lad who joined the Navy in 2002 to travel the world and open up job opportunities.

“I always wanted to travel the world, and when I was younger job opportunities were quite limited back then, so the Navy was an attractive proposition.”

As the IT Manager in Tobruk, PO Hoskinson is a senior supervisor within the Communications Branch.

“My job is to ensure the ship's company have computer support they need so everyone can do their job, it’s a very busy job,” said PO Hoskinson.

It’s been a rewarding and challenging career for PO Hoskinson who is currently undertaking extra study to expand his skill set.

“I'm currently studying project management, and hope to move into that field some time in the near future.”

PO Hoskinson made the most of Tobruk’s recent port visit to Hobart for Navy Week Tasmania, proudly sharing his unique work place with the local community during the ship’s open day.
