Australians join forces in Malaysian soccer challenge

Leading Seaman Electronics Technician Gerard Reeves dazzles the opposition with his fancy footwork during a friendly football game against the Malaysian Navy during a visit to Kemaman, Malaysia.

One month into their North East Asian deployment HMA Ships Arunta and Sirius joined forces to take on the Royal Malaysian Navy in a friendly game of soccer during a port visit to Kemaman. It was a hotly contested game with both teams demonstrating a high level of competitiveness however it was the Malaysians who came out on top winning 3-1.

Able Seaman Electronics Technician Damien Lovie farewells his girlfriend Miss Eliza Skate prior to HMAS Arunta departing Fleet Base West on HMAS Arunta's North East Asian Deployment.

Friends, family and loved ones lined the wharf at Fleet Base West, south of Perth, Western Australia, in late August as HMA Ships Sirius and Arunta departed for North East Asian deployments.

Chief of Navy Vice Admiral Tim Barrett, AO, CSC, RAN, with the Turkish Fleet Commander Vice Admiral Veysel Kosele, and guests onboard HMAS Anzac, for a commemorative service to HMAS AE2, lost during World War One, in the Sea of Marmara.

Against the bitterly cold wind of the Turkish Sea of Marmara HMAS Anzac hosted a solemn ceremony to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the actions of the HMAS AE2 crew ahead of the landings at Anzac cove.

HMAS Ballarat arrives at Langkawi Naval Base for Exercise MASTEX 2013.

HMAS Ballarat successfully completed a port visit to Langkawi, Malaysia at the start of September as part of her South East Asian Deployment.

ASLT Naomi Gammon, SBLT Ben King and Ensign Natsuki Kawasaki (of the Japanese Maritime Defence Force) hold an informal debrief on recently completed officer of the watch manoeuvres, conducted in company with the US Navy destroyer USS Momsen (background).

As part of its North East Asian deployment, HMAS Sydney (IV) has been conducting exercises at sea with the Japanese Maritime Self Defence Force. HMAS Sydney (IV) and the Japanese destroyer JDS Murasame took part in Exercise NICHI GOU TRIDENT, a three-day exercise designed to enhance interoperability between the two navies.

Ensign Natsuki Kawasaki transferred by helicopter from Murasame to join Sydney (IV) for the exercise and the voyage to Guam as the ship’s Japanese Liaison Officer.
