HMAS Cerberus has been named the recipient of the Governor’s Cup for 2019.

The Governor’s Cup is presented to the Royal Australian Navy Shore Establishment that has excelled in all aspects of operations, safety, training and support to the Fleet.

The awards were announced by the Fleet Commander, Rear Admiral Jonathan Mead, on 30 November - as part of the annual Fleet Awards.

Chief of Navy, Vice Admiral Mike Noonan AO, took the opportunity to present the cup to Cerberus’ Commanding Officer, Captain Mike Oborn, as part of his recent two day visit to the Victorian base.

Captain Oborn said he was very happy and proud of the achievements of the entire ships company throughout 2019.

“Despite the challenges of a base undergoing redevelopment, we have still managed to raise the training outputs required to meet the future and growth of our Navy.

“We have delivered on all of our commitments with a strong sense of team and interdepartmental collaboration,” Captain Oborn said.

“The base redevelopment has continued to evolve, but despite the challenges that brings, the entire Cerberus team of staff, instructors, students, military and civilian, have worked extremely hard together and their results couldn’t make me any prouder of each and every person’s contribution,” he said.
