A new website aims to improve support for wounded, injured and ill current and former Australian Defence Force personnel, their families and those who assist with their care.
Minister for Defence Personnel Dan Tehan launched the ‘Engage, Supporting Those Who Serve’ website on 11 August.
The website aims to simplify the process of finding and accessing free information, support and services. ‘Engage’ is part of the Support for Wounded, Injured and Ill Program that is a joint Defence and Department of Veterans’ Affairs initiative.
‘Engage’ is electronically accessible from a range of smart devices and connects users to government agencies, not-for-profit service providers and charities.
Mr Tehan said the site enabled users to search for services based on a broad range of criteria including their needs, geographical location and the support or services required.
“The website aims to reduce the time and effort involved in searching for information and maximise the support that individuals can access,” Minister Tehan said.
Vice Chief of the Defence Force, Vice Admiral Ray Griggs said the website further supported members during every stage of their career – whether they were currently serving or had served, were recovering from an injury or illness or had transitioned to civilian life.
“It is often not enough for services to simply be available, people need to know they exist and how to access them. This website helps with that,” Vice Admiral Griggs said.
Head of People Capability in Defence People Group, Rear Admiral Brett Wolski said members, their families and those involved with members’ care who accessed ‘Engage’, did not need to register and individual use of the website was not tracked.
“The website is open to all service providers and charities who wish to register their free support and services,” Rear Admiral Wolski said.
The website is hosted by Defence and the data will be maintained by participating service providers.
‘Engage’ is funded under the Defence White Paper and is phase three of the Support for Wounded, Injured and Ill Program.
