The Royal Australian Navy hosted the International Submarine Safety Forum at HMAS Stirling in September. The forum is rotationally hosted by member nations annually and is focused on technical and governance issues around submarine safety in partner nations.

In 1998, the Royal Australian Navy became the fourth Navy in the world to permit women to serve in submarines. Then in 1999, some of those women earned the prestigious ‘Dolphins’ qualification to become our Navy’s first fully-fledged submariners.

Receiving the highly coveted Federation Star is a milestone in anyone’s career, and on Friday 29 July, Lieutenant Commander Guy Burton, RAN was presented with his Federation Star by Chief of Navy Vice Admiral Michael Noonan, AO, RAN at HMAS Stirling, the home of the Submarine Force in Rockingham, Western Australia.
