HMAS Melbourne's ship's company stand at attention as Commanding Officer, Commander Marcus Buttler, RAN, carries the ship's Australian White Ensign during the ship's decommissioning ceremony at Fleet Base East, Sydney.

The Royal Australian Navy has celebrated the completion of 27 years of service by HMAS Melbourne, the last of her class. The 138 metre long Adelaide class guided missile frigate was decommissioned at her home port at Fleet Base East, Garden Island in Sydney.

HMAS Melbourne (III) has returned to her home port of Sydney this week, marking the end of her final voyage - her decommissioning pennant and battle ensign flying one last time.

The bonds between HMAS Melbourne (III) and her namesake city were reaffirmed today with the ship’s company exercising their Freedom of Entry for the final time before the ship decommissions later this year.

On HMAS Melbourne’s final stretch of her latest and last overseas deployment, a number of family members had the unique chance to experience life at sea.
