The ship’s company of the Australian warship HMAS Newcastle is deployed to the Middle East Area of Operations (MEAO) as part of Operation SLIPPER.
Since arriving in the MEAO on 27 May, Newcastle’s crew of 230 officers and sailors has conducted maritime security patrols as part of the multi-national Combined Maritime Forces task-group. Their mission has been to counter terrorism, piracy and smuggling in the Red Sea, the Gulf of Aden, the Arabian Gulf and the Indian Ocean.
Newcastle is due to complete her six month deployment to the MEAO in October, meaning that her ship’s company will not be home this weekend to celebrate Fathers Day with their dads, sons, grandfathers and grandsons.
They have recorded a series of Father's Day video messages to say 'Happy Father's Day' from the MEAO.
