The Commander Joint Operations Command (CJOPS), Lieutenant General Ash Power, has presented HMAS Anzac’s former Catering Department with a Group Commendation for its efforts and hard work while deployed to the Middle Eastern Area of Operations (MEAO) from July 2012 to January 2013.
Members of the team who were awarded the commendation were Petty Officer Maritime Logistics Chef Paul Lucas, POML-C Daniel Douglas (then Leading Seaman), LSML-C Ryan Wilson, LSML-C Deborah Ridge (then Able Seaman ML-C), ABML-C Katrina Brack, ABML-C Luke Barton and ABML-C Zacharii Morris.
“I am humbled that the team has been recognised in this way. We worked long hours to achieve excellent results for the Ship’s Company,” POML-C Lucas said.
“While deployed we were privileged to cater for the Prime Minister of Australia, The Honourable Julia Gillard, MP; and members of the Australian Parliament who conducted an Australian Defence Force Parliamentary Program (ADFPP) visit to the ship. We also cooked for the Ambassadors and Defence Attaches of China, France, the United Kingdom and Cuba, the Australian Ambassador to Ethiopia, the Australian Defence Attaché to the African Union and military officers from numerous Coalition countries,” said POML-C Douglas.
The award citation read (in part):
"Your tireless dedication and unflagging humour ensured you always produced exceptional results that showcased Australia, the Royal Australian Navy and the Australian Defence Force in the best possible light. Your culinary efforts received praise from a wide range of dignitaries.”
Most of the awarded catering team members have now moved on to new postings in the Navy, with other Fleet Units and Establishments lucky enough to be enjoying the fruits of their culinary skills.
