Mrs Robyn Shackleton, wife of former Chief of Navy and Commanding Officer of HMAS Brisbane II, Vice Admiral David Shackleton (retired), was guest of honour and launching lady, sending the destroyer on her way with the traditional toast and smash of a bottle.

The second Hobart class destroyer marked a major milestone in its construction when she was officially named Brisbane and launched in Adelaide on 15 December.

ASC Apprentices Jayden Cairns and Courtney Bird lay the coin in the keel of the second Air Warfare Destroyer at the ASC Shipyards.

This week another milestone was reached for the Air Warfare Destroyer project when the keel of the Royal Australian Navy’s second destroyer, NUSHIP Brisbane was laid in Adelaide.
