A Royal Australian Navy Seahawk from HMAS Melbourne discharges flares over the coast of Warrnambool, Victoria.

The Warrnambool community were granted a rare opportunity to see a warship on Tuesday, when HMAS Melbourne conducted a close proximity transit during her return voyage to her homeport Garden Island, Sydney.

816 Squadron aircrew and maintainers landed in the action zone at Albert Park Raceway last Sunday, to show off the Navy’s S-70B-2 Seahawk helicopter.

S-70B-2 Seahawk is loaded onto a RAAF C-17A Globemaster III for transportation to Western Australia for a joint maritime training exercise.

The airfield at HMAS Albatross was abuzz with activity late last week when three Seahawk helicopters and 84 personnel from 816 Squadron left for Western Australia to participate in TAMEX, a joint maritime training exercise in anti-submarine warfare.

HMAS Newcastle’s S-70B-2 Seahawk Helicopter has lit up the evening sky in the Middle East Area of Operations, while firing its complement of missile counter-measure flares above the Red Sea.
