Officers from observer navies in front of the deep submersible vessel onboard the submarine rescue ship JS Chiyoda during Exercise PACIFIC REACH 2019.

As well as benefitting the Royal Australian Navy’s submarine community when it comes to search and rescue techniques, lessons learned in Exercise PACIFIC REACH 2019 will also be woven into the standard operating procedures of the many countries involved in this year’s exercise.

St John Ambulance Service Solomon Islands Chairman Sir Douglas Kelson, MBE, MES, CStJ, centre, is presented the keys to an ambulance donated by Australia from Commanding Officer HMAS Adelaide Captain Jonathan Ley, RAN, right, and Colonel Kim Gilfillan, CSC, in Honiara.

Australia has donated a fully equipped ambulance to St John Ambulance Service in Honiara, Solomon Islands. The delivery in late October was facilitated by Royal Australian Navy ship HMAS Adelaide.

HMAS Melville’s Executive Officer Lieutenant Commander Sara Barnett presents Corporal Joe Meto, Vanuatu Police Force with an HMAS Melville plaque on the safe delivery of the Vanuatu Police Boat to Loh Island.

HMAS Melville has delivered a watercraft from Port Vila to Vanuatu police in the vicinity of Loh Island, enabling the Ni-Vanuatu people to patrol the area, something that was previously not possible.

On Friday 25 October, Basic Clearance Diving Course 86 graduated at the Australian Defence Force Diving School, after an intensive 12 months of training at HMAS Cerberus, HMAS Penguin, Pittwater Training area, Marrangaroo Training area, Singleton Range and the Shoalwater Bay Training area.

The Slocum Glider launch onboard HMAS Melville in the Coral Sea.

HMAS Melville has deployed three Slocum Gliders in vicinity of the Coral Sea, as part of the SEA2400 trials and Australia’s continued efforts to test new technology to enhance the hydrographic surveying capabilities of the Navy and the Nation.

The Australian Defence Force’s third Air Warfare Destroyer (AWD), NUSHIP Sydney, is on track to be delivered to the Navy in February 2020 after completing sea trials.

During the month of October, the Port of Brisbane was centre stage for the exchange of Humanitarian Aid and Disaster Relief equipment, including excavator trucks, shipping containers, an LCM8 Landing Craft, LARCs and Army personnel, between HMA Ships Choules and Adelaide.
