Australian and US forces are gearing up for mid- to high-intensity warfare against ‘near-peer’ adversaries on the month-long Exercise TALISMAN SABRE, which begins at the end of June.
HMA Ships Canberra, Choules, Anzac, Toowoomba, Ballarat, Darwin, Melbourne, Success, Diamantina, Huon, Gascoyne and Melville will all take part.

The 2017 Queen’s Birthday Honours List named three leaders from the Royal Australian Navy frigate HMAS Darwin recognised for their service in the ship’s recent deployment to the Middle East.
It’s not often you get to brush shoulders with royalty, however, the ship’s company of HMAS Darwin was recently tasked with a very royal mission.
After farewelling Brisbane recently, HMAS Darwin headed to Hobart last month – her penultimate port of call on her final visit to all coastal capital cities.
In the middle an intense training and systems check period, HMAS Darwin slipped into the Brisbane River and berthed across from Navy’s home in southern Queensland, HMAS Moreton.
In her final year of service, members of HMAS Darwin’s ship’s company have seized the opportunity to reinforce links with her namesake city.
Two AK-47s seized by the Royal Australian Navy during Operation MANITOU were presented to the Australian War Memorial to maintain the historic record of Defence’s contributions in the Middle East.
