In late August, the Australian Defence Force Physical Training School held an AFL 9s competition at HMAS Cerberus, Victoria, as part achieving a component of the Physical Trainers' Course.

Defence has been undertaking department-wide changes as a result of recommendations from the First Principles Review, announced by the Minister for Defence in April, and since then, major work has been undertaken to simplify decision-making, heighten accountability and deliver capability on time, fit for purpose and on budget.

Dirk Hartog Island off Western Australia was the backdrop to a maritime rendezvous in June when Sail Training Ship Leeuwin II encountered Royal Australian Navy submarine HMAS Rankin returning home from a South-East Asian deployment.
