HMAS Newcastle has rounded out her busy six-month deployment to the Middle East, completing some ‘firsts’ and ‘lasts’ for Australian Navy ships in the region.

Within one year of joining the Royal Australian Navy, six officers have taken part in a critical humanitarian aid and disaster relief mission in Vanuatu.

HMAS Newcastle recently conducted a three-day port visit to Antsiranana, also known as Diego-Suarez, in Madagascar, deployed as part of Operation MANITOU.

ScanEagle is launched from the flight deck of HMAS Newcastle in the Middle East region.

HMAS Newcastle has conducted the Royal Australian Navy’s first simultaneous operations of manned and unmanned aircraft during its current deployment to the Middle East on Operation MANITOU.
