Three Australian occupants of a disabled sailing vessel, 105 nautical miles north west of Darwin are back on terra firma this week thanks to assistance by Armidale Class Patrol Boat HMAS Albany.

September 29 2013 began as a routine day for Aircrewman LS Woolard, Pilot LCDR David O’Toole, Aviation Warfare Officer LEUT Phillip Rhodes and Aircrewman Instructor PO Colin McCallum of 816 Squadron, but it soon developed into one of high drama the crew may never forget.

An Australian Transport Safety Bureau report has found that two Navy crews displayed ‘professionalism and skill’ while saving merchant sailors from the sea at Christmas Island in 2012.

A joint effort by the Headquarters Northern Command and Navy mine hunter HMAS Huon has lead to the recovery of a merchant vessel's high speed rescue craft, which was adrift in the Timor Sea for more than six days.
