Family and friends wait patiently on the wharf at HMAS Waterhen for the return of HMAS Huon from more than four months away on a North East Asian Deployment.

HMAS Huon has returned home to Australia after more than four months deployed in North East Asian waters following the longest voyage undertaken by a Royal Australian Navy mine warfare vessel.

RAN Minehunters HMA Ships Gascoyne and Huon have been commended by Japan Maritime Self Defense Force (JMSDF) Captain Yasushi Noguchi for their excellent result in successfully finding all underwater mines in a designated exercise area in minimal time.

At the largest gathering of mine warfare dedicated vessels seen in Japanese waters, HMA Ships Gascoyne and Huon have joined with 22 ships from the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force (JMSDF) and the United States Navy (USN) to participate in the first joint mine warfare exercise in the region, Exercise HYUGA NADA 18.

Members of the Royal Australian Navy's Mine Warfare community gathered for a bake sale, hosted by Minehunter Coastal crew HMAS Huon at Sydney base HMAS Waterhen, in support of 100 Days For Change.

When the Royal Australian Navy Minehunter HMAS Huon held a cake sale alongside Sydney’s HMAS Waterhen last week, the Commanding Officer took the opportunity to take the attendees out of their comfort zones when thinking about diversity in Navy and beyond.
