HMAS Moreton opened its gates recently to more than 500 people for a joint family day and Defence Force Recruiting careers day.
The event was aimed at bringing Navy families together whilst showcasing Navy’s technologies and careers to prospective applicants.
Attending the day and taking in the atmosphere was Executive Officer of Moreton, Lieutenant Commander Marcello Quintieri.
“Having a family day here at Moreton is such a great opportunity for us to showcase to the community what we do,” LCDR Quintieri said.
“The day provides an opportunity for our officers and sailors to give an insight into their careers while having a relaxed time with their families and friends.”
The event featured a fire truck display, two Navy helicopters, a Navy cadet jet boat RHIB display, an Army Bushmaster, a police jet boat and 27 classic cars from a collection of British, American and Australian muscle cars.
The day’s festivities also provided a lot of entertainment for the children, including a jumping castle, petting zoo and face painting.
“It is great to see so many families here today enjoying the activities,” LCDR Quintieri said.
“And the Navy Band playing classic hits for everyone definitely adds to the atmosphere of the day.”
Moreton is planning to open its doors again next year and drawing an even bigger crowed to the event.
