The Royal Australian Navy’s Admiral’s Own Big Band launched their latest album Straight Ahead on 4 November with a concert at Coogee Diggers Club in Sydney.

For over 100 years, the Band has been one of Australia’s premier musical acts and the newest album continues this fine tradition.

Executive Producer for the project, Lieutenant David Coit, said the recording exceeded even the Band’s expectations.

“We brought together the very best musicians in Navy from units across Australia and the results are outstanding,” Lieutenant Coit said.

“The music was arranged entirely by Navy members and Straight Ahead showcases the depth of talent within the Band.”

Straight Ahead
is the second album released by the Admiral’s Own Big Band and features tunes from the last 70 years with a modern approach for the contemporary big band.

Leading Seaman Musician Cameron McAllister was involved in both albums as an arranger, composer and performer and said it is exciting to be part of a world class big band.

“The playing is first rate and we are very proud of both Compositions [the first album] and now Straight Ahead,” Leading Seaman McAllister said.

“This new album is a more accessible than Compositions, but equally interesting and exceptional and will be one of the best big band releases in Australia this year.”

The Royal Australian Navy Band provides musical, ceremonial and public relations support to Navy activities ashore and at sea and on domestic and international stages.

Full time bands are based in Sydney and Melbourne, with Reserve outfits in Brisbane, Hobart, Adelaide and Perth.

The bands provide a number of musical groups including Ceremonial and Parade bands, Concert and Chamber Ensembles, Rock and Jazz Groups and sea deployment groups.
