HMAS Melbourne's boarding party intercepts a suspected pirate boat.

HMAS Melbourne has apprehended nine suspected pirates off the coast of Somalia during a maritime security patrol in the region.

First lines are passed as HMAS Huon prepares to berth alongside HMAS Waterhen, returning home after four months deployed assisting Operation RESOLUTE in Australia's north.

In September, just in time to participate in the International Fleet Review, HMAS Huon returned from four months on deployment, including a 12-week stint on Operation RESOLUTE.

Operation RENDER SAFE 2013 is on track to begin next month. The mission is a standing Australian Defence Force operation to help remove the explosive remnants of war from the South Pacific.

The prospect of handing over and heading home after a long deployment is reason enough to smile, but for three members of HMAS Newcastle there was an added incentive.

The officers and sailors of the Guided Missile Frigate, HMAS Melbourne, are embracing Ocsober, the annual fundraising initiative that encourages people to give up alcohol for the month of October.
