The conditions could not have been better for a hotly contested game of soccer between HMA Ship’s Melbourne and Sirius, during a recent port visit in Singapore.

The sport of soccer is currently undergoing a resurgence at Fleet Base West, in Rockingham, after a busy 18 month period that has seen the team based at HMAS Stirling creating a strong impression in the local competition as well as against visiting ship’s teams.

With a zealous crowd and great fanfare, the guided missile destroyer HMAS Hobart was commissioned in to the Royal Australian Navy fleet in a formal ceremony at Garden Island in Sydney today.
