Students from schools across Victoria experience the leak stop and repair facility at HMAS Cerberus in the Royal Australian Navy during their Naval Gazing Secondary Schools Boot Camp.

The Navy Community Engagement Program - Victoria hosted the annual Naval Gazing Secondary Schools Boot Camp at HMAS Cerberus from 3-5 December 2013.

Commanding Officer HMAS Kuttabul, Commander Todd Willson, RAN and Chief Executive Officer Foodbank NSW, Gerry Andersen with the donations provided by ship's company of HMAS Kuttabul for a food drive held in conjunction with Foodbank NSW.

In the spirit of Christmas, Navy personnel and their families from across the Fleet have donated hundreds of food items for redistribution via welfare groups to the community’s poorest and most needy members.

The Melbourne detachment of the Royal Australian Navy Band got into the spirit of Christmas recently by supporting the annual Carols by the Bay concert held at the Peter Scullin Reserve in Melbourne.

HMAS Albatross Commanding Officer, Captain Gordon Andrew presented representatives of the Nowra Veterans and Community Men's Shed with a cheque for $600, which will assist the Nowra Men’s Shed in their aim to improve men’s health and well-being by creating opportunities for social interaction among men and raising awareness of men’s health issues.

The chefs stopped cooking, the cleaners upped and left, the fire-station seemed eerily quiet and phones were left unanswered across HMAS Creswell recently - but the Serco Sodexho Defence Services (SSDS) Site Manager, Tim Went, shouldn’t have worried because his staff were only stopping to acknowledge the efforts of their boss.

Seven Shoalhaven students delivered a presentation on the complexities of Bernoulli’s Principle, the Dissymmetry of Lift and Anti-torque to an audience of teachers, careers advisers, Navy personnel, and their families as part of their graduation from LongLook, an intensive naval aviation vocational program for high school students run by HMAS Albatross.

Students from Saint Andrew’s Catholic College in Cairns have given a special gift to the men and women from Cairns-based Fleet Units who will be serving at sea over the Christmas period this year.

Community service and strong school leadership was recognised in Year 10 student Jessie Quinn from St Andrew’s Cathedral School (SACS) when she received an Australian Defence Force Long Tan Leadership and Teamwork Award on 25 November.
