HMAS Melbourne's Leading Seaman Electronics Technician Melanie Chadwick marshals in a S-70B-2 Seahawk for a helicopter in-flight refuelling evolution.

HMAS Melbourne ship's motto, 'vires aquirit eundo', translates as 'she gathers strength as she goes'. Commissioned on 15 February 1992, she is one of the Royal Australian Navy's four Adelaide class guided missile frigates and constantly continues to impress.

During the first week of December, 816 Squadron took part in the Fleet Experimentation Period. These important few days enabled the Fighting Tigers to push new capabilities and exercise the core war fighting focus of 816.

A ceremony was held in Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea, on 4 December to mark the commissioning of the Her Majesty Papua New Guinea Ship Lakekamu into service with the Papua New Guinea Defence Force.

Friends and family gather on the wharf at Garden Island, Sydney to welcome home HMAS Tobruk from a six month deployment.

On 6 December, HMAS Tobruk sailed through Sydney Heads after five months away, and was welcomed alongside her home port, Garden Island by family and friends.

Outgoing Commanding Officer HMAS Arunta, Commander David Tietzel presents incoming Commanding Officer, Commander David Landon with the ship's 'weight' - a painting gifted to HMAS Arunta (I) by indigenous Australian artist Albert Namatjira, during the CO Handover Ceremony.

After a challenging year bringing HMAS Arunta out of the Anti-Ship Missile Defence Upgrade and a deployment around Australia including participating as lead ship in the Albany Convoy Commemorative Event, Arunta’s Commanding Officer, Commander David Tietzel handed over command of the ship to Commander David Landon in a ceremony on the flight deck.

Over an intensive two week sea assessment period in October, seven Marine Technician sailors achieved their Marine Systems Controller qualifications in HMAS Parramatta as part of the Project METEOR pilot event.

Rain did not deter friends and families who waited patiently at Fleet Base West to welcome home HMAS Sirius recently following a busy seven month deployment.

On 15 November, a bright sunny day in Brisbane, Commander Ashley Papp relinquished command of HMAS Choules, handing the weight to Commander Chris Aulmann. The handover of the 'weight' symbolises the transfer of the responsibility of command.
