The Navy’s two largest ships have departed Fleet Base East in Garden Island, Sydney today bound for exercises off Australia’s east coast and northern waters.

Improving the resilience of Navy members has been a key outcome of a Fleet Base East Personnel Support Unit (PSU) initiative. In April a group of 11 individuals from PSU had the opportunity to trial a 3-day course on equine handling. The course was designed to assist their understanding of how positive relations, verbal and non-verbal, can help people communicate more effectively.

The NUSHIP Brisbane Winning Team for EAA European Handball 2018.

Esprit de corps and teamwork were common themes during the annual European Handball Championship held at the Fleet Base East Gym recently. Teams from across the Sydney region played it out for the Eastern Australia Area (EAA) European Handball Champion for 2018.

Faced with a number of changes to the ship’s program and to ensure that personnel are fit to fight, HMAS Newcastle has explored alternate options of how to address Individual Readiness shortfalls. Thinking out of the box has allowed a problem to become a challenge and from there, solutions were developed.
