A perfect day in Sydney’s Middle Harbour set the scene for the first of many waterborne rescue exercises for the Submarine and Underwater Medicine Unit (SUMU) based at HMAS Penguin.

After two years of construction, the upgraded Royal Australian Navy Diving School and the Submarine and Underwater Medicine Unit (SUMU) at HMAS Penguin was officially opened by Deputy Chief of Navy, Rear Admiral Michael van Balen today.

Forty years of service to Navy’s submarine community by Scientist Officer Mr John Pennefather, BSc (Hons), was commemorated at a function at HMAS Penguin last week.
