NUSHIP Sydney awaits her launch at Osborne Naval Shipyard in Adelaide.

The Royal Australian Navy’s newest ship has been launched during a ceremony at Osborne Naval Shipyard in Adelaide. The Hobart Class Destroyer Sydney carries a proud name and is a significant warfighting enhancement to Australia’s fleet.

Royal Australian Navy personnel are posted to all corners of the globe, integrating into the forces of partner nations, contributing to and improving Navy capability. Navy members currently posted to the United States Navy’s Helicopter Maritime Strike Squadron 40, known as the Airwolves, recently provided an insight into Anzac Day for their US counterparts.

Crew from HMAS Sirius are formed during the HMAS Westralia Fire 20th Year Anniversary Memorial Service on the HMAS Stirling Quarterdeck in honour of the tragedy that claimed the lives of four crew members: Midshipman Megan Pelly, Petty Officer Shaun Smith, Leading Seaman Bradley Meek, and Able Seaman Philip Carroll.

A commemoration has been held at HMAS Stirling, Western Australia to remember the four lives that were lost 20 years ago in a fire on board the former supply vessel HMAS Westralia.
