HMAS Coonawarra Commanding Officer, Commander Viktor Pilicic lays a wreath at the 75th anniversary of the sinking of HMAS Patricia Cam.

Representatives of the Royal Australian Navy and Northern Territory community paused today to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the sinking of HMAS Patricia Cam and the loss of nine lives.

The former HMAS Labuan has proven to be a popular attraction and dedicated workhorse in her new role as part of the Papua New Guinea Defence Force.

The rainy weather did nothing to dampen spirits at the Coolum Surf Lifesaving Competition recently as the Royal Australian Navy provided support for the competition where crews used various surf skills in short races that made for thrilling spectating and tight finishes.

Attendees at the workshop hosted by the Australian Civil-Military Centre consider the practical and ethical implications of women’s involvement in conflicts.

The Royal Australian Navy is helping to re-shape Australia’s approach to managing conflicts of all kinds, joining a special workshop held recently in Canberra. The role of women in conflict has become a key focus for Australian Defence Force planners, as they seek out ways to win over communities on the front line.

On the 75th anniversary of the final action of HMAS Armidale I, the Royal Australian Navy has again paused to mark the loss of 100 servicemen.
