The Australian guided missile frigate HMAS Sydney took command of a Surface Action Group during tri-lateral naval exercises in the Western Pacific Ocean off the Marianas Island chain on June 24, 2013.

Members of ESPS Cantabria conduct programmed maintenance while alongside Garden Island in Sydney. Cantabria has been successfully operating as part of the Royal Australian Fleet since February. Her deployment is augmenting RAN capability.

After an intense period of training and programmed maintenance alongside Garden Island, Sydney, the Spanish Combat Supply Ship ESPS Cantabria has returned to sea to carry out individual and collective training in the East Australian Exercise Area.

Exercise SEA LION 13 came to a conclusion on 28 June in waters off North Queensland.

The ship’s company and embarked forces of HMAS Choules came under the media microscope recently as a camera crew from Channel 7 Brisbane came onboard for a couple of days to cover Exercise SEA LION 2013 (EX SL13).

HMAS Tobruk has arrived in Wewak in the East Sepik province of Papua New Guinea. Over 100 embarked personnel travelling with HMAS Tobruk are bringing medical, dental, veterinary and engineering assistance to the township.

Exercise SEA LION Block II Amphibious Training will soon come to a close, with the exercise being hailed a success and a significant stepping stone in the development of Australia’s amphibious capability.

Able Seaman Taylor Burgess, Seaman Kasey Senior and Able Seaman Jordan Shephard get close to Mangitungs the cus cus at the community health fair.

The veterinary team deployed for PACIFIC PARTNERSHIP 2013 has treated a most unusual patient.

Far from the farm stock and pets they were expecting, the team were presented with a native cus cus, a striking orange bush possum.

Named Mangitungs, the cus cus was brought in to a full day community health fair in Wewak, Papua New Guinea, by his owner Erica.

WESTERN PACIFIC OCEAN – The Royal Australian Navy has joined forces with the United States Navy (USN) and Japan Maritime Self-Defence Force (JMSDF) to participate in a tri-lateral exercise, PACIFIC BOND 2013, June 22-26.

PACIFIC BOND is a multi-national naval exercise designed to advance participating nations’ military-to-military coordination and capacity to plan and execute tactical operations in an advanced warfare environment.
