The Prime Minister announced today in Adelaide, that the next generation of 12 submarines will be constructed in Adelaide, with DCNS of France selected as the preferred international partner for the design.

For the first time, Australia has lead a task force as part of an international mine countermeasure exercise, with a team of 10 Royal Australian Navy personnel joining the Royal Fleet Auxiliary ship Cardigan Bay, in Oman.

The Guided Missile Destroyer - Hobart sits in the shiplift prior to the official launch ceremony.

On 18 April Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull, Defence Minister Marise Payne and the Chief of Navy, Vice Admiral Tim Barrett, announced the build locations for 12 Offshore Patrol Vessels and up to 21 Pacific Patrol Boats, in addition to nine Future Frigates previously announced.
