Commanding Officer HMAS Stirling, Captain Brian Delamont, RAN, presents Leading Seaman Imagery Specialist Richard Cordell with the 2017 Rosemary Rodwell Award first place trophy in the Navy Imagery Unit-West at HMAS Stirling.

In a time when we are inundated with various forms of imagery on a daily basis, it takes something pretty special to stand out from the crowd in the photography world.

When many sailors hear the name Rosemary Rodwell, it doesn’t mean much, but for Navy’s Imagery Specialists it means the annual pursuit of the perfect photo.

Leading Seaman Imagery Specialist Brenton Freind, takes out the Rosemary Rodwell photographic memorial prize with his winning image of HMAS Success returning to Fleet Base East, Garden Island, Sydney, after a long deployment on Exercise Rim of the Pacific.

After the dust had settled on this year’s showcase of Navy imagery there was, after much debate, finally a winner – Leading Seaman Imagery Specialist Brenton Freind.

Able Seaman Imagery Specialist Jesse Ryhnard is presented the Rosemary Rodwell Memorial Prize by the Commanding Officer HMAS Albatross, Captain Simon Bateman. ABIS Ryhnard was awarded the prize after his photograph was chosen as the winner of the 2013 competition.

There was no shortage of photographic support when Able Seaman Jesse Rhynard was presented with the Navy's top photography award, the 2013 Rosemary Rodwell Memorial Prize, by HMAS Albatross's Commanding Officer Captain Simon Bateman.
