Future focus earns Navy pilot Australia Day award

It’s hard to imagine Navy’s future capability without unmanned aerial systems, and the aviator who led the introduction of this technology into the Royal Australian Navy has been recognised with a Conspicuous Service Medal in the 2019 Australia Day Honours and Awards list.

Naval Attache Jakarta, Captain Nick Hart and Laksamana Pertama TNI I.G Putu Wijamahadi shake hands at the conclusion of the Opening Ceremony for Exercise NEW HORIZON.

Captain Nick Hart poured his heart into enhancing Navy’s Defence bilateral relations with Indonesia during his time as Naval Attaché Jakarta. The commitment has earned him the award of the Conspicuous Service Cross in the 2019 Australia Day Honours and Awards list.

Captain Mark Sirois has been recognised in Saturday's Australia Day Honours and Awards list with the award of the Conspicuous Service Cross for his service in Command of HMAS Newcastle on operations in the Middle East Region.

Royal Australian Navy Commander and orthopaedic surgeon, Dr Ian Young, at the office, an operating theatre of the NATO Role 3 Multi National Medical Unit in Kandahar.

After a long day of performing surgeries on multiple casualties at the Role 3 Multinational Medical Unit at Kandahar Air Field in 2012, Royal Australian Navy Orthopaedic Surgeon Ian Young found himself treating an Australian soldier who had been critically wounded by an IED explosion.
