The Australian Defence Force has provided some unusual support at the White Ribbon Gala held at the NSW State Parliament, Sydney.
More than 200 State Parliament members and guests, including the Premier of NSW, the Hon Gladys Berejiklian MP and the NSW Opposition Whip, The Hon Shaoquett Moselmane MLC attended the event.
Navy, Army and Air Force individually donated ‘experience’ auction items.
Deputy Director NGN, Commander Peter Teichmann, on behalf of the Navy, provided a once in a lifetime experience on a warship for six people. This included a tour of the ship, whilst taking in the beautiful views of Sydney Harbour, and a three course lunch with the ship’s Commanding Officer, cooked by highly acclaimed Navy chefs.
Funds raised from each auction item will be donated to help the White Ribbon Foundation, Brewarrina Safe House, and the Womens' and Girls' Emergency Centre at Redfern.
CMDR Teichmann introduced the ship experience and acknowledged the value of White Ribbon promoting the prevention of violence against women.
He affirmed that Navy, in conjunction with the Army, Air Force, and the Department, is resolute in its commitment to ending domestic violence.
“There is no place for violence against women, and it is truly evident that Navy members are right behind that message,” CMDR Teichmann said.
Navy’s auction item created such a stir in the room that it raised $6000 for the warship experience - the highest amount of money paid for an auction item on the night.
In total, the ADF’s auction items raised $10,000 of the record-breaking $69,500 raised during the evening.
